(Otididae; Arabian Bustard A. arabs) Portmanteau of genera Ardea Linnaeus, 1758, heron, and Otis Linnaeus, 1758, bustard; "SINOPSIS DES GENRES DE LA FAMILLE DES OTIDÉS.  ...  Bec long, droit, seulement un peu recourbé vers la pointe . . . . . . ARDÉOTIDE.  Ardeotis.   ...   GENRE  ARDÉOTIDE (Ardeotis, d'Is. Geoffroy).   Ce Genre, dont le nom rappelle le Héron (Ardea) et l'Outarde (Otis), est caractérisé par un bec long, droit, seulement un peu recourbé vers la pointe.     L' ARDÉOTIDE  LOHONG (Ardeotis Arabs, d'Is. Geoffroy; Otis Arabs, de Gmelin; Eupodotis Arabs, de Lesson) habite l'Afrique méridionale et l'Asie" (Le Maout 1853); "Ardeotis Le Maout, 1853, Hist. Nat. Oiseaux, pp. 339, 340.  Type, by monotypy, Otis arabs Gmelin (i.e. Linnaeus), 1758." (JAJ 2020).
