DEFINITIONS

LEUCOPTERNIS
(Accipitridae; Ϯ Black-faced Hawk L. melanops) Gr. λευκος leukos  white; πτερνις pternis  hawk; "5. und letztes Subgenus. Bussard-Bussardhabicht — Leucopternis Kaup.  Autour et Buse Temm.  Buteo G. Gray. Fersenbussard, Polyborus Pr. Max.   Diagn. Mit gestrecktem gradem Schnabel, kurzen Flügeln. Zweite bis 6. Schwinge ausgeschnitten. Tarsen mäßig hoch. Mittelzehe kurz, geht 2mal in die Länge der Tarse. Nacken ohne Federholle. Sie haben die Größe des gemeinen Bussards und das Gefieder ist an Kopf, Hals und allen unteren Theilen blendend weiß.  In ihrer Lebensart werden sie den Rupornis-Arten gleichen, allein indem sie noch als Subgenus die Bussarden darstellen, werden sie noch gemeinere Raubvögel als diese seyn.   11) Der Augenstreisige Bussard-Bussardhabicht — Asturina melanops Lath.
