(Cuculidae; Ϯ Square-tailed Drongo Cuckoo S. lugubris) Portmanteau of genera Surnia Duméril, 1805, owl (i.e. wicked, evil) and Cuculus Linnaeus, 1758, cuckoo (cf. French sournois   deceitful; Coucou  cuckoo); "It has three distinct notes, which it repeats in great regularity with a loud but not unpleasant voice, although by many natives it is considered as ominous of evil" (Horsfield 1824); "5.e Race.
