‡ (Fringillidae; Ϯ Hawaii Akialoa A. obscura) Hawaiian name ‘Akialoa  long-billed green bird, for the Hawaii Akialoa; "Héoro-taire akaiearoa  ...  cet oiseau est connu sous le nom d'akaiearoa à Owhyhee, une des îles Sandwich" (Vieillot 1817); "Akialoa, new genus   Type species. — Certhia obscura Gmelin, 1789.   Etymology. — The Hawaiian name for these birds. Hawaiian words do not have gender but as the present name ends in "a" we arbitrarily treat it as feminine" (Olson & James 1995); "Akialoa Olson and James, 1995, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 108 (3), p. 384.  Type, by original designation, Certhia obscura Gmelin, 1789." (JAJ 2020).
