DEFINITIONS

LAMPROSPIZA
(Mitrospingidae; Ϯ Red-billed Pied Tanager L. melanoleuca) Gr. λαμπρος lampros  brilliant; σπιζα spiza  finch  < σπιζω spizō  to chirp; "Von den Psarinen, als irrthümlich zu denselben gestellt, müssen die folgenden Arten ausgeschlossen werden:  1. Psaris habia Less. Cent. zool. Tab. 59.  Tityra habia Gray l. c. No. 12.   Dieser mit den grösseren Arten der Psarinen in der Farbüng allerdings sehr übereinstimmende Vogel, gehört nach seinem Baue unverkennbar zur Familie der Fringilliden und zwar in die Nähe von Saltator und Coccoborus.  Von beiden genannten Gattungen weicht er indess genügend ab, um unter dem Namen Lamprospiza habia als Typus einer neuen [Gattu]ng betrachtet werden zu können."
