(Vieillot 1816); "Capito Vieillot, Analyze [sic], 1816, p. 27. Type, by monotypy, Tamatia à tête et gorge rouges of Buffon = Bucco niger P. L. S. Müller." (Peters, 1948, VI, p. 24).
