(Oriolidae; Ϯ Timor Figbird S. viridis) Gr. σφηξ sphēx, σφηκος sphēkos  wasp; -θηρας -thēras  hunter  < θηραω thēraō  to hunt  < θηρ thēr, θηρος thēros  beast, animal; the strong bill inclined earlier authors to treat the figbirds as allied to the rapacious shrikes; "132.
