(Columbidae; Ϯ Black-winged Ground Dove M. melanoptera) Gr. μετριος metrios  modest  < μετρον metron  measure; πελεια peleia  dove; "La simplicité du plumage nous a suggéré le nom du quatrième genre METRIOPELIA Bp., qui contient six espèces d'un brun plus ou moins gris; à bec grêle, à pieds faibles vu la famille dont il fait partie, à ailes longues quoique arrondies, à rémiges aiguës, les extérieures échancrées en dehors, dont la première, allongée, égale la cinquième, les deuxième et troisième étant les plus longues: la queue courte, presque carrée, à rectrices larges.   1. Col. melanoptera, Gm. (nom mal appliqué par Temminck), ou du moins l'oiseau de Molina que nous ne croyons pas différent de C. boliviana, Orb., à épaulettes blanches, en est pour nous le type.   2. ● “The correct name of this bird is somewhat difficult to determine. It was first obtained by Dr A. von Nordmann in south Russia, and sent to the Imperial Society of Naturalists of Moscow under the manuscript name of G. melanoptera. This was altered by the editor of the Society’s publications - Fischer - with the approbation of the Society, to nordmanni, but the original description was drawn up by Nordmann himself” (BOU 1915) (syn. Glareola nordmanni).
