(Psophodidae; Papuan Whipbird A. viridis) Gr. ανηρ anēr, ανδρος andros  man; φοβος phobos  fear  < φεβομαι phebomai  to flee; coined to reflect the supposed kinship of the shy Papuan Whipbird with the genus Androphilus Sharpe, 1888, bush warbler; "Androphobus Hartert & Paludan (genus novum).  Typus und einzig bekannte Art: Androphilus viridis Rothschild & Hartert. Die neue Gattung steht Androphilus Sharpe ziemlich nahe." (Hartert & Paludan 1934); "Androphobus Hartert and Paludan, 1934, Orn.
