GUBERNATRIX
(Thraupidae; Ϯ Yellow Cardinal G. cristata) Specific name Emberiza gubernatrix Temminck, 1823. This epithet was given to the Yellow Cardinal on account of its imposing crest, like the feathered and plumed hats worn by military commanders of the day; "II. Les COMMANDEURS ² ont le bec conique, pointu, robuste, à bords lisses, mais déjetés en bas comme chez les tisserins. Les ailes sont courtes, arrondies, dépassant à peine le croupion. La queue est longue et échancrée. Les tarses sont gros et robustes. La tête est surmontée d'une huppe dressée.  La seule espéce de ce groupe est le huppé jaune de d'Azara ou le BRUANT COMMANDEUR ³ de M.
