(Thamnophilidae; Ϯ White-shouldered Fire-eye P. leucoptera) Gr. πυριγληνος puriglēnos  fiery-eyed  < πυρ pur, πυρος puros  fire; γληνη glēnē  eyeball, eye; "Gen. Pyriglena n. gen.  (πυριγληνος, mit feurigen Augen).  Die Zehen sind stärker entwickelt als bei der vorhergehenden Gattung [Myrmonax], die Aussenzehe ist merklich länger als die innere Zehe; Schwanz verhältnissmässig länger mit breiten Federn; Gefieder vorherrschend kohlschwarz oder dunkel, gegen welche Färbung die feurigrothen Augen lebhaft abstechen. In dieser Gruppe gewinnt die Bekleidung der innern Laufseite am täuschendsten das Ansehen einer Stiefelschiene.   1. P. domicella.   ...   2. P. atra.   ...   *3. P. maura.   ...   4.
