DEFINITIONS

ALEADRYAS
(Oreoicidae; Ϯ Rufous-naped Bellbird A. rufinucha) Gr. αλεα alea  heat of the sun (in allusion to the sun-burnt nape); δρυας druas, δρυαδος druados  dryad, woodnymph  < δρυς drus, δρυος druos  tree; "ALEADRYAS gen. nov.  Type, rufinucha Sclater 1874 (Pachycephala).  ...  The REDNAPED ROBIN-WHISTLER (Aleadryas rufinucha) is one of the most interesting of the Pachycephaloid forms as it definitely appears to be very aberrant, if it be a "Pachycephala" at all. It recalls some of the Shrike-Thrushes, or better still the Shrike-Robins, and must be transferred to one or the other at some later date. Scarcely any worker has considered it as an ordinary Whistler, but no one has found a place for it. The generic name Aleadryas is provided with rufinucha as type, as it differs from "Pachycephala" in the formation of its bill, which recalls that of a Colluricincla or Heteromyias: the nasal and rictal bristles are very notable; the coloration is distinctive and the legs are long and strong" (Iredale 1956); "Aleadryas Iredale, 1956. Birds New Guinea 2: 106.  Type, by monotypy, Pachycephala rufinucha P. L. Sclater." (Beehler and Pratt, 2016, Birds New Guinea, p. 381).
