Local Venetian names Porzana, Sforzana and Sporzana for the smaller crakes; ex “Gallinula ochra” of Gessner 1555, Willughby 1676, and Ray 1713, “Porzana minor” of Aldrovandus 1599, and “Rallus aquaticus minor” or “Maruetta” of Brisson 1760 (Porzana).
